Mattia Lucarelli, son of former striker Cristiano, and Federico Apolloni, the two young Livorno footballers accused of sexual violence against a 22-year-old American student, were sentenced to 3 years and 7 months.
This was decided by the Milan magistrate Roberto Crepaldi at the end of the abbreviated trial in which there are three other defendants.
The two players ended up under house arrest in January 2023 and were released from prison the following June.
The Prosecutor's investigation had hypothesized an alleged gang rape which dates back to the night between 26 and 27 March 2022.
"They are devastated because they are normal 20-year-olds," said the lawyer Margherita Benedini, one of the defenders of the 5 young people convicted in Milan. The lawyer added that he "does not agree" with the sentence, specifying that the judge gave "a different reconstruction than that of the Prosecutor's Office".
The prosecutor Alessia Menegazzo in fact contested the sexual violence by coercion while the judge by induction, i.e. abusing the inferiority condition of the victim who had drunk a lot.
