The hope was that Olbia's first victory would make Lucas Gatti change his mind. Instead, this morning, less than 24 hours after the 3-1 at Savoia and exactly one month after his presentation as the new coach of the whites to replace the sacked Marco Amelia, the club's press release arrived with the greetings of the Argentine coach.
Gatti resigned on Saturday, on the eve of the away match of the 11th day of Serie D, but yesterday he was still on the bench against the Campanians. "As you already know, I have submitted my resignation as coach of the first team of Olbia Calcio 1905. The reasons, of a strictly personal nature, do not allow me to face my role to the best of my ability. The match against Savoia was my last as coach of the first team", Gatti begins.
"In the few weeks here I have found, beyond the difficulties, so many people who have supported me in everything and I wanted to thank them. Players, staff, club, press and fans have always made me feel their trust and support since day one . The sporting situation - we read further - will change, I have no doubts. Today we won and it must be the beginning of a new period. This first victory must serve to find calm, serenity and the harmony necessary to face the decisions that will give the team and club even more strength to look to the future".
Finally, the former Boca Juniors' hope for the future of the Gallura team, currently second to last in the standings with 6 points, 2 points away from the playouts. "To whoever replaces me - says Gatti - I wish the same support that I have received from everyone and so, all together and in harmony, we can reverse the direction of a season that started badly but that I am sure will end as Olbia and its people deserve, because football belongs to the people".
With Gatti, Olbia has earned 5 points in 6 games. Now, we await the club's moves regarding the new coach, who would be the third since the beginning of the season.
