A fast-paced and lively first half, a slow second half, but a promising start to the season.
Torres beat Livorno 2-1 after dominating the match for an hour. And yet, the Rossoblu (or rather, Rossoneri, given the color of their shirts) were without center forward Diakite (suspended) and the injured Mastinu and Di Stefano.
The formation is with a five-man midfield where Giorico sits slightly behind to set up the play and Brentan and Lunghi act as midfielders, although Lunghi becomes a left winger when he attacks.
First Half - Fabriani immediately plays the ball to the right and is brought down: no yellow card. Giorico launches a free kick from the right, Zecca heads it well, but Seghetti blocks it right on the line. Torres is lively, and in the ninth minute, Lunghi receives a beautiful ball on the left, sprints into the box, and despite being offside, beats the goalkeeper. Lunghi has impressive speed; every time he gets the ball, he outwits the defender and creates chaos. In the quarter-hour, his pass to Musso is blocked by the defense. Immediately afterward, Zecca runs in and the ball just misses the top corner. In the 21st minute, Bonin heads in a cross that is saved. In the 22nd minute, Nunziatini pushes ahead on the left despite a foul by Mawete, but fires past the goalkeeper, who saves in two attempts. When Torres breaks away, they put on a show with their speed and ability to spread the play.
Torres persisted and doubled the lead in the 41st minute: a left-footed corner, the goalkeeper coming out poorly, Zecca headed it back, and Musso pounced on goal to make it 2-0. And the referee, too lenient towards Livorno's foul play, overlooked a counterattack charge on Zecca in injury time.
Second Half - In the second half, Livorno became more proactive, though more with long balls than with ground play: in the 55th minute, Zaccagno came out well to deal with a dangerous ball into the middle. The teams were less compact in the final half hour, but counterattacks failed to convert into opportunities. Livorno pulled one back on the scoreboard in the 69th minute with Marchesi, who exploited the home defense's only real hesitation.
Torres responded with a cross from Nunziatini from the left, but Bonin's header was weak. In the 78th minute, Zecca sent in a low cross from the right, but Musso was unable to deflect the ball. Livorno finished the match on the front foot, with Pazienza's team struggling to regain control of the match.
