A top-flight challenge for Amatori Rugby Capoterra, who will host Sondrio Rugby tomorrow afternoon (kick-off at 2:30 PM) in what promises to be one of the big matches of the day in Serie B.
The Giallorossi enter the match with sky-high morale after their convincing 14-35 victory over Varese, a win that vaults them into the top spot in the standings, tied with CUS Genova, both on 10 points. Right behind, just one point behind, is Sondrio, fresh off back-to-back wins against Rho and Cernusco. There are crucial points up for grabs and, perhaps, a first glimpse of the league hierarchy.
A six-year-old duel, Capoterra and Sondrio haven't faced each other since November 2019, when the Lombardy team won 31-12 at home. Their last meeting in Sardinia dates back to October 2018, with a resounding 61-17 victory for the Giallorossi.
The victory in Varese confirmed Capoterra's progress, and the week of training was intense, with a specific focus on defense, both collectively and individually, to iron out some of the inaccuracies seen in Lombardy.
Coach Ambus notes a positive attitude, but demands even more focus. He thinks it's too early to make definitive assessments, but the performance so far has been good. He has no doubts about Sondrio, believing they're a solid team with great spirit.
Good news from the infirmary: Wilson, Brui, and Aru, sidelined last week with minor injuries, are fully recovered. They should all be available, Ambus confirmed, explaining that the Capoterra crowd is the extra man.
Comunale is preparing for battle. At stake is the top spot in Serie B and the chance to continue a positive streak that, in the Capoterra area, is making people dream big.
