On matchday 17 of Serie A, Lazio achieved a crucial victory by beating Lecce 1-2. The Biancocelesti thus redeemed their defeat against Inter. Led by Castellanos, Baroni's team unlocked the match in the third minute of injury time in the first half, thanks to a penalty scored by the Argentine and awarded for an intervention with the arm of Guilbert (sent off) to save a shot on the goal line that was destined for the net.

In the second half, however, Lecce responded immediately: in the 50th minute, Tete Morente surprised Provedel for the 1-1. But Lazio did not let themselves be intimidated and, three minutes from the end, found the winning goal with a precise right-footed shot from Marusic, who had just entered the field. In injury time, Lecce came very close to equalizing: in the 95th minute, Kaba hit the crossbar with a header and Pierotti wasted the chance to score, failing to hit the target from two steps away on the rebound. Thus, Lazio took home three crucial points.
