A magistrate of the Court of Criminal Appeals allegedly made violent and denigrating remarks towards Cagliari Mayor Massimo Zedda in a crowded public place.

This is what Democratic Party Senator Marco Meloni, the Senate's Quaestor, stated in a statement. He noted that he had submitted a question to Justice Minister Carlo Nordio, "asking him to ascertain the veracity of the facts and to consider, if they were confirmed, initiating the disciplinary procedures required by law. It is necessary," Meloni added, "to prevent incidents of this nature from undermining citizens' trust in the administration of justice."

Among the phrases reported by Meloni, referring to the mayor of Cagliari, were "he deserved to be squashed like an insect" and "I'll drown him in thirty centimeters of water."
