The technology to experience the sea safely . With an alternative telecommunications system to the network used for cell phones that everyone has in their pocket and whose prototype is ready.
It is the international project Iside , Innovation for the safety of the sea - which now requires only the interest of the market - included in the European Interreg Italy-France maritime program.
Everything starts from a premise: in the last ten years, 17 percent of accidents at sea have been linked to communication problems. The rest depended on human error. The key, therefore, is a correct and practical use of the tools now available to the scientific community.
THE PROJECT - Iside has developed voice and audiovisual models and protocols related to ITC communication systems. The prototype tested in the field - with simulations of accidents between boats also in Cagliari - is able to report the AIS VHF signal used for communications at sea directly on applications that can be installed in smartphones and smartwatches, making the technology that, in the event of an accident , it will be able to replace the "human factor" in the delicate phase of communication with the operations centers of the Port Authorities.
"Today - explained Gianfranco Fancello , professor at the University of Cagliari , on the occasion of the final event of the European project hosted in the Sardinian capital - we can therefore formalize the full functionality and efficiency of our prototype which, once engineered, will be made available to At the same time we leave open the human factors laboratory created within Iside, which remains available to the partnership and the whole community to generate new highly integrated research activities, capable of highlighting the incidence of the human factor and that allow the development of processes and products that are highly responsive and performing to psychophysical standards ".
Eight partners are involved in the project: University of Cagliari Unica-Cirem; Siit-Integrated Intelligent Systems and Technologies Joint-stock consortium company (Scpa); Itcg - General Command of the Port Authority-Coast Guard Corps; Port System Authorities of the Northern Tyrrhenian Sea and the Sea of Sardinia; I sail; Chamber of Commerce of Bastia and Upper Corsica; Chamber of Commerce of the Var.
