A substantially negative perception of distance learning (Dad) by young Sardinian students.

This is what emerges from the research carried out by Eurispes through a questionnaire that involved 694 students from the island (435 students, equal to 62.7% of the sample and 259 students, equal to 37.3% of the total interviewees) and was conducted in a selected number of lower and upper secondary schools .

THE EXPERIENCE - The judgments expressed by the young people interviewed regarding their school experience carried out in Dad are distributed, however, in a fairly balanced way around the two positive / negative poles (46.1% compared to 53.9%), albeit with of the differences: only for 13.5% of Sardinian students Dad was a clearly positive experience, while for 32.6% it was "enough". More than two out of ten children (20.8%) expressed a decidedly negative evaluation and 33.1% experienced online lessons with some discomfort.

FREQUENCY - With regard to the regularity of their school attendance during the periods of activation of the Dad, almost two out of 10 students have seen a decrease in their attendance at lessons , organized according to the new online method. Only for 50% of the sample the absences, during the Dad, remained unchanged with respect to the frequency in presence. Furthermore, 36.4% of the sample declared that at least one or two of their classmates stopped attending online classes during the first wave of the pandemic and 21.2% indicated that there were several classmates who suspended their attendance in the same period.

During the lessons in Dad, 26.8% of the students interviewed, almost three out of ten, with different intensity and frequency, thought about dropping out of school . In the face of all these difficulties, school performance has undergone a decline for 23.8% of the children, it has not undergone change for 39.3%, while it has even improved for 36.9%.

HUMAN RELATIONS - The relationship with teachers has not suffered repercussions in the perception of 53% of students, it has instead transformed into a pejorative sense due to Dad for 23.8%, while 24.7% believe it has improved.

The quality of friendships was not affected for 50.3% of young people, but above all the mood was negatively affected by the lack of direct interactions: 55.3% of students in fact reveal that the mediation of the screen had an impact negatively on their psychological state, for 27.1% of the boys the Dad was not a factor of destabilization or improvement of their mood, while 17.6% believed that it represented a positive circumstance.

HEALTH - On the health front, young people note that distance learning represented a negative element in 33.1% of cases, they do not recognize it as a role capable of shifting one's balance in 47.1% of cases, while it had favorable effects for 19.8% of the sample.
