If the fireworks of Sant'Antonio mark the beginning of Carnival in Sardinia, in Oliena you have to wait a few more days. On Saturday 20 January, Invasioni Barbariche returns to the Barbagia centre, an event now in its fifth edition which marks the first collective release of traditional Sardinian masks.

Organized by the 1994 draft of the San Lussorio Oliena Committee, it will take place in the streets of the historic centre. In fact, the long procession of the most representative masks of the Sardinian tradition will wind along those streets, ending with a great final show.

Departure scheduled for 4pm from via Martin Luther King, the procession will continue along Corso Vittorio Emanuele II and arrive in piazza Berlinguer, where the masks will perform, presented by Giuliano Marongiu who will be accompanied by the voice of Maria Luisa Congiu. To conclude the evening, the lottery prize draw.

The groups that will participate: Urthos and Buttudos from Fonni, Mamutzones Antigos from Samugheo, Sos Tumbarinos Pro Loco group from Gavoi, Thurpos from Orotelli, Su Sennoreddu and Sos de S'Iscosorzu from Teti, Mamuthones and Issohadores Atzeni from Mamoiada, Su Bundhu from Orani , SOS Merdules Bezzos of Ottana.
