Like a symphony of gestures. It is the one created by the women who, this Tuesday, dressed the Madonna degli Angeli on the occasion of the festivity held yesterday in Sassari.

Female hands and fingers have adorned with precision those of the simulacrum of the Virgin and of Christ, statues of the Gremio dei Muratori, inserting and sewing on the fabric, with needle and golden thread, jewels, earrings and hearts in silver and gold.

«It's a very old tradition - reports Teresa Rassu, 58, one of the "seamstresses" involved for the occasion -, my mother Gavina and my aunt Tilde have been doing it for over 60 years».

These are jewels donated by the faithful who thus want to thank the Assumption and show her their devotion. “She accepts everything. And when, for example, we put on an earring, we do it with the heart».

Teresa's family is almost a dynasty in this sense given that even her grandmother, at the time, sewed the Muratori flag. And this morning in the cathedral of San Nicola, after yesterday's procession through the streets of the historic centre, the women withdrew the jewels from the Virgin with absolute attention while the men took care of placing them in a case.

The appointment is now postponed to next year but the gratitude never stops. «Our Lady of the Angels is our symbol - concludes Teresa -. Talking about her makes me shiver. We want to do everything to make her happy."
