It's a challenge to the last snail, but it should be eaten "succiaddura", i.e. using only hands and teeth to suck the gastropod. Typically Sassari race, the "Ciogghitta d'oro" will celebrate the 13th edition on July 27 in Piazza Santa Caterina starting at 9pm.

Organized by the Abbì Lillo Carboni association, the competition is open to all (free registration) and any competitor will receive a voucher for a free dinner in one of the 23 Ciogguida restaurants which also offer a dish based on snails or lumaconi on the menu. The winner will instead get a life-size golden snail.

The evening will be conducted with panache and jokes by Laura Calvia and Daniele Coni, actors of the Bobò Scianel company with musical commentary by the Ciogghitta Band. The novelty of this year is the Sassari culture quiz for the contestants, with questions asked by the actor Carlo Valle who will play the first artificial intelligence of Sassari named ZI-Beddu, the Gremio Award is up for grabs.

The event was presented this morning in the Chamber of Commerce because it is part of the Salude & Trigu program.
