A fountain created by the multifaceted Calabrian artist and university professor of Rome, Vincenzo Varone : three caravels sculpted on bronze and trachyte , placed on a base in a small square in Via Principessa Maria in Sassari .

A work ordered in 1990 by the municipal council then led by the mayor Franco Borghetto. The caravels were also immersed in beautiful water features that made this corner of the capital really suggestive. Over the years the work has gone into decline , between vandalism and lack of maintenance . It has long been dry and in total oblivion.

The topic was brought to the attention of public opinion by the citizen coordinator of the Sardinian Reformers, Michele Saba .

"The fountain is equipped with an ingenious mechanism that allows water to be recycled - he explains -. Therefore, restoring it to its original state would not lead to any additional water costs". The exponent of the Reformers formulates a proposal. "For its restoration the students of the Academy of Fine Arts could be involved. It would be an interesting thing against apathy and decay".
