"I have been living in a garage for seven months, with my 34-year-old unemployed son, in via Repubblica Romana in Sassari. We have no electricity, water and bathroom. We are in desperate conditions. I am a widow and receive a pension of 400 euros per month. with which I also pay the rent. But we can't take it anymore. Help us. " It is the drama of poverty and the cry of pain of RS, 63, from Sassari. Before, he had a small job as a caregiver, but not even that for several months. The lady who looked after is in fact deceased.

"I live with great shame - adds RS - When I go out I make sure that there is no one outside. I don't want others to notice the conditions we are in. But now I have decided to come out, and I do it especially for my son. . I hope for help from the municipal administration and the institutions. I say this without any controversy, but it is not right to live like this. For anyone ".

His son also adds: "Until last year I received 180 euros per month of citizenship income, then I gave up to work in a company, which soon went bankrupt, perhaps due to the pandemic. I re-applied and I'm in wait, but I didn't understand why they gave me so little ".
The two cases are being dealt with by the majority municipal councilor Giuseppe Palopoli. "We will try to do something for the lady and her son, involving the social services and also the mayor, who certainly is not insensitive to these cases - explains the councilor - Unfortunately, even in Sassari there are conditions of extreme poverty. Many do not even have the courage to denounce it. It is also up to us, as the Administration, to intervene and try to find solutions. This is one of our most important tasks, especially in the delicate moment we are living in. "
