Sassari, the Descent of the Candlesticks "reopens" to the public. But the Cavalcade will be held in September
The opposition in the city council argues over the times and ways of organizing the event

The festival most loved by Sassari returns after a year of stop and a reduced edition to the original formula: open to tens of thousands of faithful and tourists, who with the Descent of the Candlesticks on August 14 intend to thank the Madonna the Madonna of the Assumption by celebrating along the path of the imposing wooden candles representing the Gremi, the ancient guilds.
The news filtered this morning during the session of the permanent council commission where the councilor for culture Laura Useri should have reported on the initiatives and organization of the Holy Week Rites (which is already in progress), on the Candlesticks and the Sardinian Cavalcade. In reality, the two abundant hours have passed with the heated controversy relating to the displacement of the Sardinian Cavalcade from the traditional date of the third Sunday in May to 4 September.
The opposition advisers Ginesu, Rizzu, Panu, Fundoni, Brianda and Pinna highlighted how the dignity of their role has been trampled on: “We asked for a hearing on March 15th and it was granted to us a month later. Furthermore, we learned of the move of the Cavalcade from Facebook a few days ago. We ask to know why it was not possible to organize it in time and ended up bringing it close to the Candlesticks ".
The commissioner Useri and the official Solinas explained: "There were no technical times for all the regulatory requirements concerning such a complex event, so rather than canceling it again we moved it to a date where there is still a tourist flow. but not too hot ".
Explanations that did not convince the opposition councilors who cited the events organized by the Municipality of Olbia which "evidently moved in time knowing that in any case the health emergency would be over on March 31".
The Commission's work was therefore closed without the program of spring and summer cultural initiatives being illustrated. Everything has been postponed to the next session, but the tension between the majority and the opposition remains, likely to lead to other heated confrontations, starting with the discussion on the F4 tourist areas.
