Placing something or someone in the streets means letting everyone know about private matters, but in this case the intent is to bring theater and opera back to the people as it once was. Not only will Verdi's masterpiece "Otello" be staged in Piazza d'Italia on Friday but the rehearsals will be open to the public throughout the week .
Furthermore, as Alberto Gazale, artistic director of the de Carolis institution and on this occasion also director and set designer, explains: «For Otello every rehearsal will be transformed into a presentation meeting, a sort of 'discovery of the opera' in which we will spectators the various phases of the construction of the show. From time to time the public will be able to meet the protagonists of the new production of the de Carolis organization and experience the growth and construction phases of the show day after day. We will explain what a scene rehearsal, a directorial rehearsal, and an ensemble rehearsal are."
«The highly skilled workers of the Sassari theater – continues Gazale – have created in recent months a solid wood balustrade which will delimit the scenic space and which reproduces part of the structure of the Globe theatre: the Elizabethan theatre ». This type of theater represented the most important cultural phenomenon of Renaissance England, both because it celebrated the power of the nation and because it offered popular entertainment, accessible to any social class.
The operation also supports the Globe Theater in Rome , created by Gigi Proietti in the heart of Villa Borghese, which due to neglect and political disinterest has been closed for two years and risks never reopening again .
