"A momentous transformation of tourism in Sassari." Budget Councilor Giuseppe Masala outlined it yesterday in the Joint Second and Fourth Committees at Palazzo Ducale, during the presentation of the Single Programming Document. The reference period is from 2016, when there were just 138 non-hotel establishments, to 2024, when they reached 562.

«These are - Masala reported, in the meeting chaired by Antonio Paoni and Melania Delogu - private rental accommodation, which has increased by 312%».

The actual hotel facilities, however, remain stable at six.

Tourist arrivals in the city are on the rise, with 89,537 recorded in 2024, representing 249,718 overnight stays, with the average stay rising to 2.79 nights. Seventy-two percent of these are Italians, with 84% preferring hotels and staying approximately 2.75 days. Foreign tourists, mostly in July and August, arrived at 24,991, staying for 3.7 days. "These are European tourists, particularly from Spain, Germany, and Poland, along with the occasional Romanian citizen, of whom we recorded 10,500 overnight stays of 12-13 days."

Values are also rising for the tourist sites of the Thamus Network, which, after the pandemic decline, have resumed their growth, reaching 20,748 visitors in 2024. "This year, up until November 18th," explains the councilor, "we have already reached 19,206."
