Artist's carnival with references to the author. In that melting pot of ideas and experimentation that was New York in the 60s where Costantino Nivola was also at the center of artistic life, the famous illustrator Saul Steinberg had fun creating a series of self-portrait masks starting from the simple envelopes of greengrocers, and have them worn by friends and acquaintances in playful and performative meetings.

Referring to that experience, here is the new appointment at the Colombre Cultural Center , in Sassari in via Carso number 28: "Masquarade", an art workshop and atelier for adults curated by Marta Pala of Spazioperaria and the Colombre aps, which will take place Tuesday 21 February from 6pm.

It will be a dive into the cultural ferment of 60s New York to celebrate the carnival with artists' masks. A journey through time to that mythical era of 20th century art and culture to create artistic faces inspired by the irony of Saul Steinberg.

«The mask is a protection against revelation - the organizers explain - for this reason everyone wears a mask, real or metaphorical. People invent characters through make-up, facial expressions, hairstyles and these “facades” become what they are».

The workshop will be accompanied by a vintage-style aperitif with background music and a final photographic set.
