With the patronage of the Municipality of Sassari, the support of several city schools and for the first time the participation of the mayor of Sassari, the city is preparing to solemnly celebrate Sa Die de sa Sardigna. After the meeting with about three hundred students at the provincial auditorium in via Monte Grappa and the theatrical performance by the Teatro S'Arza through the streets of the historic center, the official celebrations will continue on Monday at 10 with an official ceremony at the monument dedicated to the eight Martyrs of the Sardinian Revolution.
In via Quarto, in the Don Leonardo Carboni square, the mayor Giuseppe Mascia, on behalf of the municipal administration and all citizens, will participate in the commemoration by laying a wreath of flowers in memory of the fallen Sassari patriots . The monument, designed by the Figari professor Vittore Loriga and created by the craftsman Corrado Desole, was inaugurated last year in the same historic location, the scene between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries of the executions of the eight Sardinian revolutionaries who dared to challenge feudalism and the House of Savoy. The scholars Federico Francioni and Antonello Nasone will also speak at the ceremony, offering a contribution of historical reflection on one of the most significant periods in Sardinian history.
The initiative is an integral part of "Primavere Sarde", a festival promoted by Teatro S'Arza, which in collaboration with cultural associations and schools – including Sa Domo de Totuse Cobas Scuola Sardegna – consolidates a path of civic and historical education aimed especially at the younger generations .
The celebrations will continue in the afternoon, at 5 pm, in the Angioy room of the Province, with the presentation of the volume "Sardinian revolutionaries in France. Characters and documents" by the Sicilian researcher Adriana Valenti Sabouret, published by Arkadia. Through precious archive work, the author gives voice to the Sardinian exiles who found refuge in Republican France after the repression of the Revolution , among whom stand out extraordinary figures such as Giovanni Maria Angioy, Francesco Sanna Corda and Gioacchino Mundula from Sassari, whose biographies the author reconstructs by publishing precious unpublished documents.
