They reached their desired goal, overcoming the challenge they had set themselves, with effort and hope. Daniele Buongiorno and Luca Parodi, who have autism spectrum disorder, left Porto Torres just a few days ago and arrived in Santiago de Compostela, at the Cathedral of St. James, one of the 12 apostles and patron saint of pilgrims. They were accompanied by the guardian who accompanied them on this adventure, educator and trainer Massimo Carta.
Together, they approached the journey with passion and curiosity, demonstrating extraordinary resilience, overcoming every obstacle, but knowing they were achieving a dream . The Camino was also an opportunity to socialize, meeting new people from all over Europe with whom they could share different experiences and cultures. They brought with them the pennant of the City of Porto Torres.
The pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela originates from a mystical event in the 9th century. It is said that a hermit named Pelagius saw a shower of stars twinkling over a field in Galicia one night. While digging, the faithful discovered a marble tomb believed to be that of the apostle James. Bishop Teodomiro of the region recognized the authenticity of the relics, and King Alfonso II of Asturias built a chapel there.
The site soon became an important Christian pilgrimage site, alongside Rome and Jerusalem. Over the centuries, millions of pilgrims have come from all over Europe to walk to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, where the sacred relics of the apostle rest.
