Women's businesses have been the hardest hit by the economic crisis linked to Covid-19.

In Italy, in the period of the pandemic emergency, in fact, there was a decline of 7.8% in independent female employment, higher than that recorded by the male component (-6.1%), and a decrease in turnover of businesses led by women 4.4 points higher than the average.

This was announced by the survey entitled "The recovery trend 2021-2022 and some gender evidence", carried out by Donne Impresa di Confartigianato, with data processed by the Studies Office of Confartigianato Sardegna.

There are 38,933 female businesses on the island, 22.8% of the total; 4,374 are led by young people under 35 (11.2% of the total of female enterprises) and 2,607 by foreigners (6.7% of the total of female enterprises).

On the other hand, there are 5,899 artisans led by women, 15% of female businesses, 17% of the total artisan businesses.

In this sector, the decrease recorded compared to 2015 was 0.6% and 11.1% compared to 2008. At the territorial level, in the old province of Cagliari these companies are 15,938 of which 2,434 are artisans, on Sassari-Gallura they are 12,583 of which 2,084 are artisans, in Nuoro there are 7,286 of which 1,031 are artisans and in Oristano 3,126 with 350 artisans.
