Trucking in crisis on the island.

According to data released by Confartigianato Trasporti Sardegna, on January 1st of this year the sector saw a decrease of 2.9%, of which 5.7% only in the artisan sector . About 20% of the entrepreneurial fabric has disappeared in the last ten years.

At the provincial level, the largest number of companies in the sector is located in Cagliari (1,123 of which 729 artisans), with a decrease of 2.9% compared to the previous year. In Nuoro there are 362 companies, of which 259 artisans (-2.7%), while in Oristano there are 250 (185 artisans), with a -2.3%. Finally, in Sassari there are 741 businesses, of which 474 are artisans: 3% are cancelled.

To try to revive the sector, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has created a bonus of 2,500 euros which drivers, aged between eighteen and thirty-five, will be able to use to obtain a driving license or professional qualifications for driving of vehicles intended for the transport of people and goods. It is possible to apply starting today on the MIT platform.
“Once being a driver was a particularly coveted job – Confartigianato Trasporti Sardegna let you know – today however it is suffering from a lack of personnel: being a lorry driver or a
driver requires a lot of determination both for the daily commitment to be sustained and for the strong distance from home, factors that are limiting the ambitions of young road haulage professionals”.
"Even the costs to be incurred for obtaining driving licenses are a variable to consider - continues the trade association - for this reason, the bonus is an essential measure to allow generational turnover in the sector, where there is a dramatic shortage of drivers for the unattractiveness of the profession and the high training costs for the acquisition of licenses. Let's hope that the much-needed turnover can be facilitated in this way”.
