A mini literary tour of the island for Massimiliano Smeriglio, a renowned educator, university professor, prolific author, and for over a year Rome's Culture Councilor in Roberto Gualtieri's government.
The former MEP and vice president of the Lazio Region in Nicola Zingaretti's government will be present this evening, Saturday, March 29, at 5:30 pm in Sassari at the headquarters of the Fondazione di Sardegna and tomorrow in Quartu, at 10 am in the Sala dell'Affresco of the former Capuchin Convent, to present his latest book, "Il legame covalente," published this year by Mondadori.
The two meetings were organized by the associations La Rosa Rossa, Diritti e Valori, and Rosalia Uras in collaboration with the Koinè and Le Giraffe bookstores.

In Quartu, the author will be joined by the host mayor Graziano Milia, his colleagues from Cagliari and Sinnai, Massimo Zedda and Barbara Pusceddu, the vice president of Bper Antonello Cabras, the deputy Francesca Ghirra, and the former president of the Order of Physicians of the Province of Cagliari, Mondino Ibba, introduced by Dino Pusceddu.
Professor of Special Education at Roma Tre University, he has numerous publications to his credit, including “Garbatella combat zone” (Voland, 2010), “Suk Ovest. Banditi a Roma” (Fazi Editore, 2012) finalist for the Scerbanenco prize, “Per quieto vivere” (Fazi Editore, 2017), “Se bruciasse la città” (Giulio Perrone Editore, 2021) and “Mio padre non mi ha insegnata niente” (Fuoriscena RCS, 2024).
The former Coordinator of the European Parliament's Committee on Culture and Member of Parliament for two terms celebrates his 60th birthday with a book of great intensity and extraordinary emotional impact.
There are bonds that resist everything, like those between two atoms that share a part of themselves to find balance.
This is the story between the protagonist, a chemistry teacher, and Marcella, a laboratory technician, united by a deep connection, by an intense marital relationship, made up of small things and small habits.
Until chaos erupts into their lives, distorting everything.
Marcella falls ill with an aggressive form of leukemia, and dies shortly after.
Beatrice, the daughter who has moved to France and has a conflictual relationship with her family, becomes, if anything, even more resentful and distant.
The man, now alone, falls into a state of depression that pushes him towards the abyss, until one day a disconcerting discovery opens up an unexpected scenario.
Can we find a way out when the cardinal points of our world have been thrown off, when resentment becomes our only traveling companion?
With agile and contemporary writing, Massimiliano Smeriglio guides the reader without moralizing into the protagonist's desperate mind, while showing how, in every life, there is always room for a new light to emerge in another place, in another time.
