Sardinian masks are the protagonists of the Venice Carnival, one of the most famous in the world, which attracts thousands of tourists every year.

From Monday, in the lagoon city, the performances of the masks of the Italian popular tradition will begin, organized by the National Union Pro Loco of Italy (Unpli).

Ten selected groups, with over 200 extras, linked by the common denominator of performances that have been handed down for generations with a historical link with the identity of the territory.

The island will be represented by the typical masks of Fonni, those of "s'urthu" and "sos buttudos" which represent man's daily struggle against the elements of nature. Other figures of Sardinian folklore in the square in Venice will be "sas Mascheras Limpias" who represent elegance, beauty and goodness.
