2024 marks a turning point for the Sardinian economy : after many years, the growth rate of businesses on the island falls below the national average .

With a +0.24% , Sardinia remains in positive territory, but is growing more slowly than the Italian average, which stands at +0.62% .

This is what emerges from the latest report “Businesses in Sardinia 2024” by Sardegna Impresa .

"This slowdown - it is explained - is linked to a drop in new registrations and an increase in terminations, which bring the numbers back to pre-pandemic levels . The more traditional sectors - namely trade, agriculture and industry - continue to lose businesses, while services (+2.2%) and tourism (+0.8%) show the ability to adapt and grow".

"At a territorial level - the report highlights -, the difference is clear: Northern Sardinia confirms itself as the engine of the island, with Sassari growing by 1.38% , among the best results in Italy. On the contrary, Oristano closes the year with a worrying -1.39%, last place at a national level".

The study also highlights how the Sardinian economy shows "a heterogeneous picture between expanding sectors and sectors in difficulty".

In detail, the report highlights that tourism (+114 companies, +0.8%) and services (+584, +2.2%) are growing, confirming a positive trend and a good capacity to adapt. On the contrary, trade (-1,139, -3.3%), agriculture (-775, -2.2%), industry (-248, -2.5%) and construction (-80, -0.4%) are showing signs of crisis.
