Sardinian agriculture in trouble: "Price increases of 200 euros per hectare"

There's suffering in the Sardinian countryside. The two and a half points that agriculture contributes to the island's GDP are as if they had more sweat. Farming the land isn't like sitting behind a desk. Daily life is filled with climate change and battles for resources that are never enough . Even access to credit isn't easy.
The latest disappointment comes from ENAS, the regional water authority, which has increased the price per cubic meter from six to 7.4 cents (+23%) . This has not addressed the long-standing problem. "The network, outdated and inefficient, is experiencing losses of up to 40% ," says Luca Saba, director of Coldiretti. "An extraordinary modernization plan is needed." From CIA, his peer Alessandro Vacca is calling for "an expansion of distribution to prevent land abandonment. And a fair price based on actual consumption is needed." Giambattista Monne, also at Confagricoltura (the association that raised the issue of price increases), is urging "to improve storage capacity, including through interconnections between reservoirs." Giuseppe Patteri, president of Copagri, emphasizes that "every increase, in a context of widespread price increases, has its impact."
Among other challenges, the CAP faces payment delays, declining access to credit, and the impacts of climate change.
