Cars driving the wrong way and two near tragedies in the space of 24 hours on the Sassari-Olbia motorway .
In both cases, the intervention of the Sassari Highway Police was providential. On the morning of May 30, a patrol from the Tempio Detachment intercepted, at km 79 of the state road, a Fiat Panda driving the wrong way in the direction of Olbia .
The officers immediately stopped the vehicle, just as a heavy vehicle was approaching, thus avoiding a probable head-on collision . The Panda was driven by a 75-year-old woman in an evident state of confusion.
A similar episode occurred the next day, again on the 729, this time near the Monti junction. Here, a patrol from the Olbia Highway Patrol avoided a potential accident. The officers, seeing a Suzuki Vitara going the wrong way in the overtaking lane, slowed down the convoy of vehicles with the “Safety car” safeguard maneuver and forced the driver to stop.
Both licenses were withdrawn, and the drivers of the vehicles driving the wrong way were reported to the Local Medical Commission to verify their psychophysical requirements for driving .
