Sardinian workers who suffer serious workplace injuries will no longer have to travel to the Vigorso Prosthetics Center in Budrio to receive assistance.

The new Centro Prosthesis service center was inaugurated this morning at the INAIL Regional Directorate in Cagliari, in the presence of Labor Minister Marina Calderone and INAIL Director General Marcello Fiori.

The new facility will offer specialized consultations, prosthetic maintenance, rehabilitation programs, and personalized care, allowing patients to receive most services directly on the island. "This is an important day because Sardinia is becoming a point of reference for those who have suffered a serious work-related injury," Fiori explained. "Until now, these people were forced to travel to Budrio, undertaking complex and costly journeys, even from a human perspective. In Sardinia, we currently estimate that 5,000 people will be able to benefit from this service."

According to the general manager, the Cagliari center will also be able to handle the creation and maintenance of less complex prostheses, while highly specialized procedures will continue to be performed at INAIL's national centers.

"For us Sardinians, this is crucial news," emphasized Minister Calderone , originally from Bonorva. "It means being able to receive highly specialized care close to home and accompany people on a path to rehabilitation and reintegration into the workforce. It's an investment in proximity and inclusion."

The Cagliari facility is the tenth service point opened by the organization in Italy as part of its plan to strengthen local services. By the end of 2026, the Institute aims to reach fourteen locations throughout Italy's main regions.
