After much controversy, the start of the renovation works of the Businco operating rooms is imminent. The start is scheduled for next April 12, that is, the date on which the activities of the Oncological Gynecology, Thoracic Surgery and General Surgery structures with an Oncological focus will be transferred – temporarily – to the San Michele del Brotzu hospital, where they will continue regularly according to the already planned schedule.
The renovation project of the Oncology Department in via Jenner is financed with funds from the Pnrr, for a total amount of approximately 11 million euros. In addition to the renovation of the two existing operating rooms, an issue that has been the subject of numerous disputes for months , two other new rooms will be built with cutting-edge technologies and modern spaces.
The management of Arnas Brotzu emphasizes that " the healthcare activity will continue without any interruption and the quality of care will remain unchanged ". Specifically, the hospitalization sites at San Michele and Businco for Gynecological Oncology will continue to welcome patients and provide continuity of care. Thoracic Surgery moves to the north wing of the seventh floor of Brotzu, where the hospitalization rooms that will be used for General Surgery care with an Oncological focus are also located.
