The DNA of Marco Mameli, the victim, and Andrea Contu, the injured man, was found on the murder weapon.
Giampaolo Migali, 28, from Girasole, arrested this morning on suspicion of murder, immediately took responsibility for the wounding, appearing at the police station but denying any involvement in the crime. A few hours earlier, Migali and his friends had used that knife to cut open carnival costumes. They were going to the Bari Sardo party, where the twenty-year-old would die . He was the only one armed.
The cameras nailed the group just steps from the crime scene, and the dozens of witnesses revealed small pieces of a puzzle. Not all witnesses cooperated, but some ultimately spoke out more than others, allowing investigators to close the loop.
The investigation, coordinated by the Lanusei Public Prosecutor's Office , was conducted by the Flying Squad of the Nuoro Police Headquarters, the Tortolì police station, the Cagliari forensic police, the Cagliari RIS and specialized personnel from the Guardia di Finanza.
Prosecutor Paola Dal Monte outlined the developments this morning at the Prosecutor's Office, along with Fabio di Lella, head of the Nuoro Flying Squad, and Deputy Prosecutor Giovanna Morra : "This is the only response the State can provide in a case like this," Dal Monte said. "It's a very complicated case, precisely because of the large number of people present, most of them masked. Six months isn't a long time to solve a murder."
