The initial green light has been given. The technical commission for environmental impact assessment, the operational body of the Mase (National Environmental Protection Agency), has approved Ichnusa Wind Power's project to build a gigantic offshore wind farm off the coast of southwestern Sardinia : 42 turbines over 300 meters tall that could occupy a vast stretch of sea off the coast of Sulcis Iglesiente, between Portoscuso and Nebida.
To give you an idea: the state concession for the power plant with the turbines alone – plus a short stretch of underwater cable – had been submitted for over two and a half million square meters.
The Ministry of Culture's opinion is still pending. If it aligns with the commission's, the authorization decree would be a given. Otherwise, given the conflict between ministries, the final decision would be left to the Prime Minister's Office.
The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) website had recently been updated. For the floating wind farm procedure proposed by Ichnusa Wind Power (a limited liability company representing the interests of the giants Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and Green It, i.e., Eni and Cassa Depositi e Prestiti), the text read: "CTVIA opinion issued, pending MIC opinion." The provision was there, but its content was unknown.
