Two petitions, one to the Region and the other to the Government, have been filed against the project to install wind turbines and storage batteries between Villanovaforru, Sardara, and Sanluri . The Entu Nostu Committee has returned to the Regional Council to protest the plan for the new facility.
"Just now that our hills are being reborn with agriculture," explains Marco Pau , one of the spokespersons for the mobilization, "they want to impose a project on us that risks changing the territory with 12 high-powered wind turbines, over 200 meters high ."
From today the start of a series of initiatives which will culminate on August 1st in a large demonstration in front of the small church of Santu Antiogu becciu, five kilometers from Sanluri .
"We support the energy transition," explained Villanovaforru Mayor Maurizio Onnis , "but no one asked the population what they thought, what they needed, or whether this project fits with our vision for our region. The answer to this last question is obviously no, because we have no need for 220-meter-high turbines that will literally devastate the land , requiring excavation, earthworks, widening, and tree felling without benefiting the town at all. No compensation has been provided, but I have to say that I don't want any compensation because there's no compensation that can repay something like this."
Appeal to the Government and the Region: "But first and foremost , the appeal is addressed to the two mayors of Sanluri and Sardara, who are equally affected —in fact, more so, because most of these 12 wind turbines will fall within their territories. Since the case has reached the Prime Minister's Office, it would be best for the entire region to mobilize against this project, because otherwise we have no chance."
Abaco, a grassroots consumer association, also took part in the sit-in, with a message: "The energy transition cannot turn into the largest speculation in the island's history."
