Many tourists, but also many fines, for a total of €14,383 . This is the sum that will flow into the municipal coffers from fines issued along the Sinis coast from June to September, both by the local police and by the barracelli. The figures were reported this morning by Cabras' mayor, Andrea Abis.
There were only two fines for sand theft. The Barracelli caught two tourists red-handed filling quartz bottles, totaling €2,000. "There were only two because the work of the Sentinelle del Sinis, Legambiente volunteers, was so important. For three months they patrolled the coastline, also stopping sand thieves," explains Abis, "explaining why sand collection is prohibited. Otherwise, the fines would have been much higher."
Regarding wild camping, 61 fines were issued, totaling €5,083. Forty-four beachgoers were fined for smoking on the beach, totaling €2,200. Thirty-eight fines were issued for loitering on the beach with their dogs in prohibited areas, totaling €1,900.
But there was no shortage of tourists who parked their cars where prohibited: sixteen tickets were issued, totaling €3,300. "As for the attendance figures," Mayor Abis explains, "they will be processed at the end of the year based on the tourist tax but also on the number of cars in paid parking areas."
