A person over seventy, with other underlying conditions, who had contracted West Nile virus and had been hospitalized at San Martino Hospital in Oristano for about a week, died yesterday. This brings the number of deaths caused by West Nile virus in the province of Oristano in 2026 to four, while the number of confirmed cases stands at twenty-seven.

The Oristano Local Health Authority (ASL) announced this in a statement.

"We once again remind you of the measures to prevent and protect against the virus: avoid standing water, screen windows with mosquito nets, and use repellent sprays when outdoors, especially at dusk, when mosquitoes, which carry the virus, are most active," explains Maria Valentina Marras, director of the Department of Hygiene and Health Prevention.
«Let's continue to protect ourselves and especially protect people
elderly and frail – is the appeal of director Grazia Cattina – Let us not stop scrupulously adopting precautions to protect ourselves from mosquito bites".
