These are difficult times for the community of Chiaramonti, where on Friday a water main burst that supplies the town from the Bidighinzu River. This water emergency, despite the tireless work of teams on the ground, has not been resolved two days after the incident due to the difficulty in locating the water leak.
Crews are walking the entire length of the pipeline to locate the fault , and today the search is continuing, also with the aid of specialized equipment. Faced with this situation, the municipal administration immediately took action to identify an alternative solution that could help minimize disruption to the public.
"As an extraordinary and temporary measure, we are completing the connection between the municipal well built under the overhead reservoir and the former Casmez reservoir," Mayor Luigi Pinna assures. Meanwhile, the overhead reservoir continues to be fed by the Monte Ledda springs. "We are aware that the water from the well will not be sufficient to cover 100% of Chiaramonti's water needs," adds the mayor, "but it will still represent an important support to offset some of the hardship the community is experiencing. Furthermore, it will help accelerate the filling of the water network, allowing for a quicker return to normality once the Bidighinzu main is restored. I would like to emphasize that the Municipality is not directly responsible for the interruption of water service. However, we have not stood by and watched. Precisely to make Chiaramonti less vulnerable to frequent network problems."
The Administration has invested its own resources in the construction of two municipal emergency wells, infrastructure that represents an important reserve for the community. "The one we are activating today is the first," explains Pinna, "the second, located on Via Carru, will become operational in the coming days. These interventions do not replace the service managed by Abbanoa, but rather allow the Municipality to have its own tools to limit disruptions in times of emergency and offer concrete support to citizens." On Monday, the mayor will urge EGAS and Abbanoa to plan the necessary investments for the renovation of the Bidighinzu water main, since many of the critical issues affecting the water system stem precisely from the precarious condition of the infrastructure.
