The Municipality of Cagliari cracks down on waste abandonment and errors in waste sorting. In the first quarter of 2025, thanks to the intensification of surveillance by the Urban Hygiene section of the Local Police, established last December, attention was focused on 84 production activities, which expose large quantities of "unsorted dry waste", carefully selected based on historical waste production data: 17 cases of irregularities emerged, mainly related to correct waste sorting and compliance with container display times.

Not only that: in the same period, 254 violation reports were issued, of which 65 against residents and 189 against other commercial and productive activities, for incorrect waste disposal or out-of-hours display of waste, in violation of the municipal regulations.

A fundamental role was played by video surveillance, which allowed the identification and sanctioning of 33 people responsible for abandoning waste on public land, in violation of the Highway Code.

The Urban Hygiene section, composed of one official and nine Local Police instructors, works in close synergy with the Soil Hygiene Service, defining the operational guidelines every quarter and publishing the results of the control activities in a transparent and continuous manner.
