ARPAS detects abnormal levels of intestinal bacteria: mayoral orderPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
The mayor of Arzachena, Roberto Ragnedda, has signed an ordinance prohibiting swimming along a stretch of the Cala Bitta coastline (Baia Sardinia). The Arzachena municipal administration has acknowledged the reports of the ARPAS sampling results, which were conducted by the regional agency on two separate occasions last week.
On May 25th and 27th, ARPAS detected the presence of Escherichia coli and intestinal Entorhococci in the seawater, with levels significantly exceeding the limits tolerated by current regulations. Nearly two kilometers of coastline have been closed to swimming. Cala Bitta beach is located not far from the small marina with 200 berths.
It cannot be ruled out that a large vessel may have discharged waste into the sea in violation of all environmental regulations. The Municipality of Arzachena is assessing the situation and has taken all the measures required in such cases. A decision to lift the ban could be made in the coming hours if the levels return to normal.
Arpas carried out a third sampling over the weekend.
