One of the days of the NATO Joint Star 2023 exercise took place today, which is being held until 26 May in the Sardinia area and is involving the coasts of the island and the Teulada firing range , where a war scenario was simulated with attacks from the sea, air and land and operations were carried out with ammunition used by helicopters and tanks. General Francesco Figliuolo is in command of the joint operation, who followed the operations from the Decimomannu base. Approximately 1,300 people and 900 units are involved in today alone, but overall the operation involves over 5,300 men and women. Among them a dozen students from Luiss, Lumsa and Sant'Anna University who participated in the planning and organization of operations.

The San Giusto ship of the Navy transported the special forces of the San Marco Battalion who in recent days have simulated landings on the Sardinian coast, while some operations have been carried out in the sea south of Sardinia, such as the search for a submarine.

Finally, helicopter gunships and tanks were used at the range to simulate an attack. War games where real shots were fired (even if weakened, explained by the press office of the Covi, the inter-force command) on a small hill a few steps from the beaches of the range, where then, again by Covi, the reclamation of the territories affected by the operation. The exercise was also followed by military observers from various NATO countries, the United States, Canada, Holland, Germany, Slovenia, but also from states that are not part of the international organization, such as Iraq, Tunisia and Switzerland.
