He had been wanted for over two weeks , after ditching his electronic bracelet and disappearing . His escape ended this morning in Cagliari, where officers from the Falchi Section of the Flying Squad tracked him down and arrested him inside a home in the Marina district. The man, a Cagliari citizen with an extensive police record, had been held in custody by the judicial authorities for property crimes. He had been missing since June 1st , the day he had discarded his electronic bracelet.
The arrest came at the end of an investigative effort launched following several reports of unusual traffic (especially at night) near a house on Via Sicilia, in the Marina neighborhood. After a series of inquiries and observation missions, the Falchi police decided to intervene and check the house, where officers found a person hiding behind a curtain. Subsequent checks confirmed that this was indeed the wanted man.
The man is under investigation as the alleged perpetrator of numerous aggravated thefts against commercial businesses in the center of Cagliari, including pastry shops, drugstores, and pizzerias . The investigation, conducted by the IV Section "Property Crimes" of the Flying Squad and the Office of General Prevention and Public Aid, has led to several of the so-called "break-ins" being attributed to him.
According to the police's reconstruction, the alleged perpetrator always operated in a similar manner: he identified the most vulnerable point of the burglar-proof entrance doors, kicked open a breach, and entered the premises to steal money and merchandise. After the formal procedures were completed, the arrested man was transferred to Uta prison.
