In Sardinia, diagnostic test times are improving , but the situation is worsening for initial specialist visits . This is what emerges from new Agenas data on waiting lists . For tests such as CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds , the island's rate of services delivered on time has increased from 74.3% to 77.3% , confirming a positive trend. Conversely, initial visits have seen a decline , with compliance with deadlines falling from 68.3% to 62.5%.
Overall, according to the National Waiting List Platform, a general improvement was observed nationwide in the first four months of 2026: specialist appointments on time increased from 76.1% to 78.7%, and diagnostic tests from 83% to 84.7%. Overall, 16 out of 21 regions showed good results for specialist appointments, and 15 out of 21 regions showed good results for tests such as CT scans, MRIs, and ultrasounds. These data are provided by the National Agency for Regional Health Services, based on 65 million appointments across all public and accredited private sector facilities.
The 16 regions with good results, that is, significantly improved or at least with a high percentage of guaranteed waiting times for first appointments, are: Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Puglia, Tuscany, Umbria, and Veneto.
As regards diagnostic tests, in addition to Sardinia , the other regions that present satisfactory results are: Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Puglia, Tuscany, Umbria and Veneto.
"Among the most significant examples is Liguria, which shows an improvement compared to previous periods, confirming a positive trend in booking management and service provision," said Angelo Tanese, General Director of Agenas . However, some regions still have room for improvement.
