Despite the growing attention paid to the issue of gender violence, the specific issue of older women remains marginalized in public and institutional debate. To explore an underestimated phenomenon, Saturday at 5 p.m. In the Conference Hall of the Fondazione di Sardegna in Sassari , the Alzheimer's Association of Sardinia is proposing a conference on violence against elderly women, especially those affected by dementia and other forms of disability.

The initiative is part of the "Alzheimer Sardinia: Together to Support" project, organized by AMAS and supported by the Department of Hygiene, Health, and Social Assistance of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia. The meeting will be moderated by geriatrician Antonio Nieddu .

Marco Bellini , who has been studying and advising on these cases for years, is eagerly awaited to speak. In July 2022, he was the first expert to be summoned to a hearing by the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into Femicide, as well as all forms of gender-based violence , to report on the plight of older women: a historic first for the Italian Parliament.

Pina Ballore , president of AMAS Sassari, made a keynote speech: "Our goal is not only to raise awareness among citizens," Ballore explains, "but also to actively involve the municipal administration, so that we can begin a shared path of prevention, listening, and protection. To bring this hidden reality to light, the conference aims to give a voice to all those women who too often remain silent.

Representatives from the "Noi Donne 2005" association will be present, with which a stable collaboration is being established and a shared document is being drafted that could represent a first concrete step in addressing this serious form of violence that is still too ignored. To date, there are no national statistics dedicated to violence against women over sixty-five.

The Music & Movie Cultural Association is responsible for coordinating the project's organization.
