The Carabinieri are mourning the sudden passing of Marshal Massimo Masala , commander of the Villasor Carabinieri Station. A constant point of reference for the community, he always stood by the citizens with professionalism and humanity, qualities that earned him the respect and affection of the town.

"A deep veil of sadness," reads a statement from the Carabinieri, "envelops the Force and the entire community of Villasor today over the sudden passing of Warrant Officer Massimo Masala, who died from a sudden and fatal illness. Born in Cagliari in July 1965, the non-commissioned officer leaves an immeasurable void in an institution to which he dedicated nearly forty years of his life with exemplary dedication and spirit of service."

His long career in the Carabinieri began in November 1987 as an auxiliary Carabiniere. Driven by unwavering determination, he achieved every milestone in his career, achieving the rank of Marshal in 2015. After initial experiences in Iglesias and Perdasdefogu, Masala served for eight years in Emilia-Romagna at the Castello di Serravalle Station, returning to Sardinia in 1998 to serve in the Sardara, Sarroch, and Monastir garrisons, where he remained for over a decade, becoming a point of reference for his colleagues and the local population. Before taking up his latest assignment, he distinguished himself at the Senorbì Station, serving several times as Acting Commander with commendable results.

At the helm of the Villasor Station Command since March 15, 2021, "his professional merit has been recognized by numerous awards, including two commendations: one received in 2020 for a brilliant operation in Senorbì and the second in July 2022 for personally leading a complex anti-drug investigation in Villasor that resulted in seven arrests, earning unanimous praise from the authorities and the public. Also awarded the "Ribbon of Merit" for his commitment during the Covid-19 emergency, Marshal Masala was a living example of the Carabinieri Station Commander."

Mayor Massimo Pinna also remembered him , dedicating a message to him on social media: " You were a Marshal with a capital M : prepared, professional, collaborative, and always present. But above all, you were a great person, kind and helpful, never a word out of place, a quality that everyone recognized in you."

"Besides being a wonderful person, he managed to establish an excellent relationship of respect and trust with the administration," Pinna explains. "What began as an institutional relationship has also become a bond of friendship. Just the day before yesterday, we celebrated Villasor's patron saint together; we never could have expected this. It's a great shame; the Marshal leaves a huge void."

" On behalf of myself and the entire community of Villasor ," the mayor concluded, " I express my deepest condolences to the family and to the Carabinieri ."
