The raised ford over the Flumendosa between Villaputzu and Muravera reopens this afternoon after 40 days of severe disruption. This reopening is also important in view of the major Sarrabese Carnival event scheduled for Sunday, March 1st in Villaputzu.
"A heartfelt thank you," said Villaputzu Mayor Sandro Porcu, "to the company responsible for the restoration and maintenance of the ford."
The ford has been closed since January 18th due to the rising Flumendosa River and the persistent bad weather . Over the past 40 days, residents have been forced to travel forty kilometers (round trip) to reach Villaputzu instead of five. This represents an additional outlay of half a million euros in fuel alone.
Meanwhile, the situation on the iron bridge remains unresolved, with work virtually halted and the Metropolitan City (the managing body) still reviewing the documents to decide whether or not to exclude the Sicilian company that won the contract two years ago. This decision is expected to be made in the coming weeks, and in any case before August, the deadline by which the work should have been completed. Yet, out of a total cost of three million euros, approximately two hundred thousand euros of work has been completed. Less than ten percent.
