A long embrace uniting the two banks of the Flumendosa, separated for over a thousand days. This is the latest initiative by the committee for a new bridge. The large human chain—a symbolic gesture to once again draw attention to the iron bridge between Villaputzu and Muravera—is scheduled for Saturday, September 26th. The decision was made during the committee's extraordinary meeting to mark the 1,000 days of the bridge closure (last September 3rd).

"We ask once again," emphasized committee president Antonio Congiu, "that the relevant bodies, both political and technical, take into account the extremely serious situation facing the entire area due to the bridge's long-term closure. We also ask that all possible solutions be adopted to expedite the work, which should resume shortly, including the use or even increase of funds earmarked for this purpose."

The Metropolitan City of Cagliari, following the dismissal of the Sicilian firm that had won the contract for non-compliance, is expected to award the contract to the next-ranked firm in the coming days. "We hope," Congiu added, "that the new firm won't bring us any further surprises." In any case, "as a committee," he concluded, "we have always supported the idea of awarding the contract to the second-ranked firm in the initial tender, convinced that re-tendering would further extend the timeframe."
