Villacidro: Copper theft at the former Keller: 31-year-old arrested

A 31-year-old man, resident of Villacidro, was arrested overnight by the Carabinieri on charges of aggravated theft inside the former Keller factory, in the town's industrial zone.
The intervention took place during a territorial control operation conducted by the Villacidro station with the support of the Mobile Radio Unit.
According to the reconstruction by the military, the patrol's attention was drawn by a light coming from inside the disused factory .
Approaching silently, the Carabinieri reportedly noticed a person moving among the machinery with a flashlight. During their investigation, the 31-year-old was caught attempting to hide in the control cabin of a machine, his face covered by a balaclava.
Inside the area, approximately fifteen metres of copper cables and some dismantled metal brackets were found , material that – according to investigators – the man tried to steal using pliers, wire cutters and other tools.
The stolen goods were recovered and returned to the rightful owner. The man, taken to the police station for formalities, was subsequently placed under house arrest pending a validation hearing scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, November 17th.
