Nine months in prison for punching his father-in-law three years ago in Valledoria, breaking his nose. A 35-year-old man of Roman origin was sentenced yesterday in court in Sassari, following a trial in which he was also charged with mistreatment and assault against his partner and the mother of his child, between 2022 and 2023 and beyond. The mistreatment charges included harassing and denigrating the woman, as well as a series of threats, from "I'll kill you today" to "I'll wipe you off the face of the earth."
He then boasted of having connections with the Rome Juvenile Court to secure custody of the child, or claimed to know "some big shots who will make you disappear in a flash without you even realizing it." The woman's humiliation, according to the indictment, also included discrediting her as a mother and insulting her with constant insults. The victim's father responded to these insults and behavior by engaging in an argument that led the defendant, according to the charges, to strike the 76-year-old "with multiple punches to the face," causing injuries that would heal in 29 days.
During the hearing, prosecutor Maria Paola Asara had requested a two-year prison sentence, and yesterday the panel, chaired by Giancosimo Mura, with Monia Adami and Sara Pelicci acting as co-chairs, imposed a nine-month sentence and a €3,000 fine, solely for the charge of assault against her former father-in-law. He was acquitted of the mistreatment charge because the facts were not substantiated, while the case for assault against the woman was dismissed. The man was represented by lawyer Luciana Pisanu, the injured party by lawyers Eleonora Bianco and Monica Cazzari, while the father-in-law was represented by lawyer Luca Sciaccaluga.
