Two men, a 56-year-old and a 58-year-old, were arrested in March while driving on the road between Sedini and Valledoria. Carabinieri found cocaine in the car, inside a pack of chewing gum, and then proceeded to search both men's homes.
More cocaine—a total of approximately 11 grams—was found in the 56-year-old's home, along with a precision scale and several small bags. Additionally, the Carabinieri officers discovered three cartridges from a Browning pistol, which the defendant, however, did not possess, further substantiating the charge of illegal possession of ammunition.
The 58-year-old's home, however, was found to be "clean" following checks carried out by law enforcement.
After the validation hearing, the 56-year-old was ordered to report to the police station two days a week, while no measures were taken against the other suspect.
Today, the summary trial in Sassari court reached a verdict after discussions in recent days, during which prosecutor Alessia Sanna requested six months for the 56-year-old, two months for the 58-year-old on the drug dealing charge, and two months for the former on the ammunition possession charge.
During the hearing, both of them, either by submitting to examination or by spontaneous statements, provided their version of the facts.
The 58-year-old, assisted by lawyer Maria Assunta Argiolas, declared himself completely innocent, having played a role in the episode only because he had offered a ride to the acquaintance, unaware of the drugs, while the other accused admitted to taking cocaine for personal use.
His defense attorney, Salvatore Porcu, proved this with a medical certificate, later claiming that the scales were used to package the doses used only by his client. As for the ammunition, it was a gift received and forgotten by the defendant in a drawer.
Judge Paolo Bulla acquitted both of them of the charge of drug dealing because the fact did not exist and, in the case of the 56-year-old, he acquitted him of possession of ammunition due to the particularly trivial nature of the fact.
