Perhaps more frightened than conspirators, this at least apparently is the way in which the many Sardinians can be described who until yesterday refused the anti-Covid vaccine and today present themselves for inoculation. This is demonstrated by the counts of the first doses that record a real boom in the island, due at least in part to the increasingly harsh restrictions for those who continue not to want to be vaccinated.
The record of first doses in 2022 - bearing in mind that pediatric doses are also counted for children between 5 and 11 years - was that of January 8 when there were 2,428. Excluding the little ones, about 1,200 adults were vaccinated in one day.
In early November 2021, to make a comparison, the Sardinians at the first injection were between 400 and 500 per day.
“A trend of new vaccinated people that comforts us a lot - says councilor Mario Nieddu - and they are all people who are starting to protect themselves from contagion, serious illness and the danger of dying.
In short, the government's tightening is working, "to the point that the vaccination obligation by age and type of job perhaps should have been established earlier", comments Gabriele Mereu, head of the Epidemiology, prophylaxis and vaccines sector for the southern health area Sardinia, "and we are convinced that more and more Sardinians who are absurdly afraid of getting immunized will show up in vaccination centers".
