Cell phones, hashish, and patches containing fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid drug.
This is what prison police officers seized during extraordinary searches carried out inside the High Security section of the Cagliari-Uta prison.
"Once again," emphasizes Donato Capece, Secretary General of the SAPPE union, "Prison Police officers are demonstrating in the field how indispensable they are to ensuring the security of institutions and preventing the circulation of cell phones, narcotics, and, in this case, even an extremely dangerous substance like fentanyl within prisons. This is an important result, confirming the effectiveness of the investigative and enforcement activities carried out daily by our officers. But we cannot continue to ask the Prison Police to deal with increasingly complex emergencies by relying solely on their sense of duty and professionalism," adds Capece. "These results must encourage the Prison Administration and the Government to concretely strengthen the staffing, technological tools, and operational capabilities available to the Corps."
Raffaele Murtas, regional secretary of Si.NAPPe., also expressed his appreciation for the operation carried out by the agents.
We wish to extend our sincere congratulations to the men and women of the Penitentiary Police who, once again, have demonstrated professionalism, investigative acumen, and an extraordinary sense of duty. The discovery of cell phones and narcotics represents an important achievement, but the seizure of fentanyl is a particularly worrying sign that cannot and must not be underestimated.
