They captured him in the countryside of Monte Oddeu, in the territory of Urzulei, where he was beheaded .
The head of the mouflon found lifeless was perhaps used by poachers to display as a hunting trophy or to use its horns as handles for traditional Sardinian knives. The carcass was discovered in recent days by a Baunei Forestry patrol engaged in territorial and hunting control.
Investigations began immediately to identify the perpetrator of this act against a particularly protected noble species. Several individuals were interviewed for preliminary testimony.
The illegal killing of the Sardinian mouflon carries a criminal penalty of three months to one year in prison and a fine ranging from €1,032 to €6,197. Recently, Forestry Corps personnel from Osini, during a hunting control operation in the Gairo countryside, seized a weapon and its ammunition because they did not comply with the law.
