Untraceable and unlabeled tuna destined for a Costa Smeralda restaurant was seized by a Highway Police patrol carrying out checks in the industrial area of Olbia.

The officers were checking the refrigerated cargo area of a van, when they saw some sealed polystyrene boxes with no labels, with only one word, “restaurant”. When they opened the box they found several vacuum-packed packages of frozen tuna, all without labels or elements useful for tracing the product. There was only the word “TONNO” written by hand with a marker .

The goods, ascertained by the agents together with the personnel of the Port Authority of Olbia, were not suitable for human consumption because they lacked the identification and traceability information required by law.

The huge load, destined for a restaurant on the Costa Smeralda, was seized and handed over to a specialized company for disposal. The transporter, a man living in Milan, was fined 1,500 euros .
